Good, Bad and Disturbing News about the Future Essay It seems that the development of our technology has some price to pay. In his article entitled â€Å"Good, Bad and Disturbing News about the Future†, Dr. Malcolm Smith, a family life specialist addresses to parents the transformations that many teenagers are undergoing over the changing times. According to him, â€Å"Our young people are very connected, yet they feel very unattached† and with this loss of the sense of belongingness, the youth has resorted into various self-destructive behaviors such as violence and despair, among others. The youth may already have various means of connecting to other people but they do not have the attachment that people before used to have. Parents must be alarmed at the revelation that not many teenagers are able to communicate with adults well and this could lead to disobedience, which is, by the way, one of the Ten Commandments written in the Scriptures. The increasing disregard of the youth for others has caused them to rebel and go against what the teachings of their parents. In the end, this disregard leads them to lose their fear over the Supreme Being. While the whole world may be planning ways on how to survive future happenings such as recessions and the like, Malcolm said that it might also be high time to think over what can be done to change the youth’s attitude on life. A ministry can greatly help guide the youth such as through the retelling of the Scriptures, so that they have a chance to reflect on how they have lived their own life. This is a hard task at the beginning; however, as teenagers would only like to feel like they belong to some group, allowing them to interact with those who have similar situations can help them feel comfortable in no time. Bringing in family and ministry support to misguided teenagers could help prepare them for the future, helping them to survive and live life free from violence and rebellion.

Nowadays, speed-detection technology has become more and more advanced, and not getting a speeding ticket is almost unavoidable. There are a lot of devices around that can help drivers detect the police traps, but these devices are illegal in many states. As people are driving down the interstate with their cruise control set over the speed limit, many get scared of a police car parked on the side of the road. Right after they pass the trap they look at the speedometer and their rear mirror, hoping that the cop will pass them by and go after those whose speed was higher. Now, Rocky Mountain Radar Co. offers drivers a solution to escape getting the ticket. This device is called the Phazer. The Phazer makes your vehicle electronically invisible to the police speed-detecting equipment. It mixes a portion of the radar signals with background clutter and bounces it back to the squad car by way of wave guide antenna, which effectively confuses the computer inside the radar gun. Police radar takes five to ten speed measurements per second of the vehicle. It is perfectly legal for people living in all states but California, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Analyzations of Emily Dickinson’s Poems Essay

Emily Dickinson wrote multiple poems describing objects without ever saying the object’s names. A few examples would be her poems â€Å"Leaden Sieves,† â€Å"A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,† and â€Å"Route of Evanescence.† These poems are similar to a riddle. In order to determine what her poem is about one must analyze the poems to identify what the object is by observing how appropriate the description is and how effective the language is in conveying the essence of the object. The first poem, â€Å"Leaden Sieves,† is about snow. The description and language was very clear to understand in this particular poem. Line 2 read, â€Å"It powders all the Wood.† Powder is white. The word â€Å"powder† also suggests that the object gently covers something. More details that lead the reader to believe that the poem could potentially be about snow fall in the following lines, â€Å"It reaches to the Fence/It wraps it Rail by Rail/Till it is lost in Fleeces† (9-11). These lines suggest that snow is covering the fence and its’ rails. â€Å"Till it is lost in Fleeces† is again suggesting that the object is white. Fleece is the coat of a lamb which is white. Lines 14-15 say, â€Å"A Summer’s empty room/Acres of Joints, where Harvests were.† These lines give the impression that it is the winter season. â€Å"A Summer’s empty room,† meaning that summer is gone and â€Å"where Harvests were,† imply ing that what used to be growth is now dead. Dickinson’s poem, â€Å"A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,† is about a snake. The description and language was decently clear to understand in this poem. A reader can easily determine it is some type of creature that resides on the ground, but it is not very clear as to whether it is a snake or maybe a worm. When line 6 stated, â€Å"a spotted Shaft†¦Ã¢â‚¬  this gave assurance that a snake would be the more correct option since snakes can be spotted. â€Å"A narrow Fellow in the Grass/Occasionally rides/You may have met Him-did you not/His notice sudden is† (1-4). These line imply that it is a creature that slithers on the ground, and also that it moves fast because it can happen a upon a person at a â€Å"sudden† instant. Also the person in the poem mistook the object for a â€Å"Whip lash† (13) which is a rope. A snake is shaped like a rope. â€Å"Route of Evanescence† is very short poem so it’s description is difficult to catch onto. The length of poem plays an important part in the poem’s language though. This poem is about a hummingbird. Line 3 says, â€Å"A Resonance of Emerald† describes the object as possessing a deep, beautiful green color. â€Å"And every Blossom on the Bush/Adjusts it’s tumbled Head† (5-6) suggests flowers that are moving as if perhaps they have just been drank from by a hummingbird. The word â€Å"rush† in line 4 and the short length of the poem implies that the object is something that moves fast and is there and then gone in a blink. The final poem (#585) is about a train. â€Å"I like to see it lap the Miles/And lick the Valleys up† (1-2) suggests not only that the object moves but also that it can cover great distances by using the word â€Å"miles.† Also the object makes some type of noise. The following lines are two examples of the object having the ability to make noise, â€Å"In horrid-hooting stanza† (12) and â€Å"†¦neigh like Boanerges† (14). Lastly. the lines â€Å"The-punctual as a Star/Stop-docile and omnipotent/At its own stable door† (15-17) insinuates something arriving at a destination at a set time like a train does at a depot. Poems can describe objects without saying the object’s names. Readers can determine what the poem is about by analyzing the poems, observing how appropriate the description is, and how effective the language is in conveying the essence of the object. Dickinson’s poems â€Å"Leaden Sieves,† â€Å"A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,† and â€Å"Route of Evanescence† were riddles they were soon solved after a lot of analyzation.

Mr Webster was from New England and gave â€Å"7th of March Speech† and called for the north to support the Fugitive Slave Law and to compromise. So how did the Compromise of 1850 begin? A question that I asked myself when I was conducting research. It all started with the Mexican-America War which lasted from 1846-1848. In the beginning the United States Army only had around 8,000 soldiers, however shortly after citizens grasped wind of the war, an additional 60,000 U.S volunteers decided they wanted a piece of action as well. This war alone had a substantial amount of deaths from both sides. While the U.S had an approximate 13,000 troop loss, the Mexicans had almost double that number, approximately 25,000 of their men were casualties, in addition the U.S won every battle that occurred, resulting in a final victory. After so many were pronounced dead, both the U.S and Mexico decided they would end the war with â€Å"The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo†. The result of the treaty was that the U.S gained all of the land in the Mexican Cession (California, Utah Territory, and Texas).
